A fascinating and informative issue of eight stamps, developed in co-operation with the British Museum, celebrates the extraordinary achievements of the Romans in Britain, from the invasion of 43 AD until the withdrawal of the last troops in 410 AD. The stamps are issued in four pairs – 2 x 2nd class; 2 x 1st class; 2 x £1.63 and 2 x £1.68 – depicting some of Britain’s most important Roman sites and artefacts from the Pharos at Dover to Hadrian’s Wall and the Gorgon’s head carving at Bath to a striking mosaic from the Roman Villa at Bignor, West Sussex.

This cover features the Pharos, or lighthouse at Dover – the tallest remaining Roman structure in Britain. An image of the tower framed by a striking 22ct gold-blocked design is complemented by a pictorial Dover handstamp. Numbered Limited Edition of 500.
